SEO Pricing

SEO Pricing and Packages in Canada

Almost nobody in this industry publishes a price. The stated reason is that every engagement differs, which is true. The unstated reason is that a number on a page loses deals before a salesperson can frame it, and the longer a prospect goes without one the more likely they are to book a call.

We think that trade is bad for buyers, so this page sets out the pricing models that exist in this market, what genuinely moves the figure, and where the ranges sit. Our own fixed-scope programme is published at $9,600 CAD. Everything beyond it we quote after an audit, and we will say why below rather than pretending that is a courtesy.

How much does SEO cost in Canada?

For a small local business, a genuine monthly retainer generally starts around $1,500–$2,500 and anything materially below that is usually either automated reporting or offshore volume work. Mid-market retainers commonly run $3,000–$8,000 a month. Enterprise and competitive-vertical work runs well beyond that. Fixed-scope projects and one-off audits are priced independently of retainers and often make more sense for a first engagement. These are market observations, not our rate card.

  • Retainer — ongoing monthly work, the default model and the easiest to over-buy
  • Fixed-scope programme — defined deliverables, stated end date, no auto-renewal
  • Project — a migration, a consolidation, a technical remediation, priced once
  • Audit only — findings and a plan you can execute yourself or hand to anyone
  • Hourly or advisory — sensible when you have a team and need direction, not hands
  • Performance-based — rare, usually structured so the agency cannot lose

Ranges describe what we observe in the Canadian market as of 2026, not what Enginely charges. Our one published price is the Accelerator.

Pricing Models

What You Are Actually Buying, By Model

Most disappointment with SEO spend is a mismatch between the model and the problem rather than the price itself. Read this column-wise before you read anyone's proposal.

Model Fits when Goes wrong when
Monthly retainerThere is genuinely continuous work — publishing, competitive markets, a site that changes weekly. The work finished months ago and the invoice did not. Retainers rarely end on their own.
Fixed-scope programmeYou want a defined outcome, a known cost and a stated finish, especially for a first engagement. The scope was drawn too narrowly to matter, or excludes the one thing your site actually needed.
ProjectThe problem is bounded: a migration, duplicate-page consolidation, a technical rebuild. It is sold as a project but needs sustained follow-through nobody has been assigned.
Audit onlyYou have capable people and need to know what to do, not someone to do it.Nobody has the time to implement it, and you have bought a document.
Performance-basedAlmost never, in our view.Terms are set so the agency is paid on rankings it can choose, for terms nobody searches.

What Actually Moves the Number

Competition is the largest single factor and the one buyers most often underestimate. Ranking a physiotherapy clinic in a mid-sized city and ranking a personal injury firm in Toronto are not the same job at different intensities — they are different jobs, and the second costs multiples of the first because the incumbents have a decade of accumulated authority.

After that: how much has to be written and who has to approve it, whether the site is technically sound or needs remediation before anything else works, how many locations and service lines are in scope, and whether you have people who can implement. A clinic with one location, a healthy site and a principal who can review copy in a week is a genuinely cheaper engagement than the same clinic with a broken CMS and a six-week approval cycle.

  • Competitive density in your vertical and market
  • Technical condition of the existing site
  • Volume of content required, and your review capacity
  • Number of locations, service lines or practice areas
  • Whether you implement or we do
  • How much of the current site has to be consolidated or retired

What We Publish, and What We Do Not

We publish one price. The AI Visibility Accelerator is $9,600 CAD for a thirteen-week fixed scope with a stated end date and no automatic renewal. It is published because the scope is genuinely identical for every client who buys it, which is the only honest condition under which a fixed number means anything.

Everything else we quote after looking. Not as a sales device — because the two variables that dominate cost, competitive density and the state of your existing site, cannot be known from a form. What we will not do is give you a range on a call, let you plan around it, then revise it upward once the audit is done. If we cannot scope it responsibly yet, we will say that instead of anchoring you to a number we intend to move.

Why the Cheapest Quote Is Usually the Most Expensive

SEO has no floor on what can be charged, because the deliverables are easy to fake. A monthly report, a handful of generated articles and a directory submission run can be produced for a few hundred dollars and presented as a programme. It will not move anything, but it will take a year for that to be obvious, and the year is the real cost.

The clearer signal is not price but specificity. An agency that can tell you what it would do in your particular case, why, in what order, and what it would refuse to do, is describing real work. One whose proposal would read identically for a dentist and a manufacturer is selling a template. That distinction is worth more than any hourly rate comparison.
